Magnitude Earthquake in Jammu and Kashmir, Tremors felt in Delhi and Neighboring Areas
An earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale jolted Delhi-NCR and neighboring areas on Tuesday.
The quake was at a depth of 60 km (37.28 miles) and the epicenter of the quake was at a distance of 99 km north of Pathankot in Punjab, the EMSC said.
In Jammu and Kashmir, devotees rushed out of guest houses in Katra. Shubham, a guest house owner, said very strong tremors were felt and all the devotees rushed out of the guest house. "With Maa Vaishno Devi's blessings, there was no loss of lives and they are returning to their hotels."
The earthquake struck a depth of 6 kilometers, the NCS said. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to property.
In Doda's Bhaderwah town, a few building developed cracks due to tremors.
Tremors were also felt in Chamba in Himachal Pradesh, about 150km from Doda.
The tremors were mild and I felt them while I was sitting on a chair, "said Baldev chand, a resident of Chandigrah.
